The service provides methods to help mums manage their everyday mental health, the awareness and understanding “it is ok not to be ok” and are able to dispel the myths they are told about motherhood. The service also provides tools and strategies to nurture themselves and peer support through the service which continues when the structured sessions end.
A client of the project, Paris, reached out to us to share her story about how the Mums Matter project helped her and many others alike.
“I just completed the Mums Matter course with CTM Mind in RCT and I wanted to share my story after it having such positive impact on me.”
“I can’t thank CTM Mind, Emilie, Wendy and Sue enough for the incredible support…”
“I was referred to Mums Matter run by Cwm Taf Morgannwg Mind, by my health visitor after experiencing postnatal anxiety. After a traumatic birth and little support after the birth, I struggled with intrusive thoughts and high levels of anxiety which I struggled to control. As someone who has battled with anxiety most of my life, I have struggled to find support on how to actively manage and challenge my mindset. I was struggling to control my anxious thoughts and they would often spiral into a place where I found it difficult to come back from.”
“I was desperate to make a change so that I could enjoy being a new mum without the darkness of my anxiety hanging over me.”
“I am so happy that I signed up to the Mums Matter RCT course, it truly helped me to change my mindset like nothing I have tried before.
The group was a safe place to share our experiences and receive support and advice. The CTM Mind staff who run the course, pour their heart and soul into the support group, giving advice, reassurance, guidance and mental and physical tools to promote positive mental health.
They have a wide depth of knowledge surrounding perinatal mental health and they create an atmosphere of belonging and security within the support groups.
We learned how to be kinder to ourselves, built our self esteem and tools such as mindfulness to help manage unhelpful thoughts.
Meeting other mums who I could relate to on many levels has provided me with a peer support group, who are intent on staying in touch after the course has finished. I have people I can turn to and hopefully I can be that person for them too.
I can’t thank Cwm Taf Morgannwg Mind and Mums Matter RCT enough, for helping me to really challenge my thoughts head on, build resilience and coping strategies to improve my mental well-being.”
