World Mental Health Day 2019

World Mental Health Day 2019

This World Mental Health Day (Thursday 10th October) we’ll be taking our information and advice pop-up out into the community. You can come and chat with us on Merthyr High Street (10-4) or at Nantgarw College (10-3) about anyone issues or concerns.

The focus for this year is Suicide Prevention, which is a subject close to our hearts at Merthyr and the Valleys Mind. In our Cwn Taf region, we have the highest rate of suicide and self-harm in Wales. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age 0f 50 across the UK.

Earlier this year, we launched our #ItTakesBallsToTalk campaign to raise awareness of suicide and self-harm. We specifically targeted rugby and football clubs across Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda in an attempt to get men under the age of 50 talking bout their feelings. So far the campaign has reached over 2000 people and has had an overwhelming response.

If you are concerned about a friend or loved one, or have experienced problems yourself, then come and say hello on World Mental Health Day and speak to one of our qualified members of staff.
