Peer Support – Side by Side
Side by Side Cymru: Peer support in your community
For many of us attending arts and craft, sport or self-help groups can make a big difference to our lives – even a something as simple as a regular coffee morning can be a real lifeline.
Groups can be great for linking up with people who’ve had similar experiences to our own – and this can really boost our mental health. We call this peer support.
Free training and grants
If you’re part of an organisation or community group that offers peer support – or are thinking about starting a group – we can help you get started.
Thanks to support from Wales Government and Mind Cymru, we’re running a series of free training and networking sessions where you can see how others have successfully run groups. You’ll also be able to find support from others in your area.
We’re also offering small grants to help you get started. This money could be used for things like venue hire, leaflets, materials for activities, amongst many other things.
Who can take part?
- Anyone involved in running a community group where peer support takes place.
- Anyone who is interested in setting up a peer support group.
- Organisations who want to support people to run a peer support group.
- Your organisation or group must be in Merthyr Tydfil or Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Attend a session
Learn about practical activities and ideas about how to make sure groups run smoothly, as well as how to deal with problems when they occur.
A great chance to meet new people and share experiences of peer support. Each event will cover different topics and feature guest speakers.
At our training and network events, there will be an opportunity to find out more about how to apply for a grant of up to £250 to support your group.
